Announcements

Please be in prayer for our friends in the Dominican Republic.  A recent fire burned down 25 homes and 2 school age boys were killed in the fire.  For more information about our mission in the Dominican, please visit the Mission Emanuel web site.

Aids Care Service
The mission of AIDS Care Service, Inc. is to help our brothers and sisters living with HIV disease improve their quality of life by responding to housing needs and providing homelike environments.

Bethesda Center
This ministry helps people who become homeless to improve their lives physically and spiritually, by providing basic needs; like a home, job & regular meals.

Brookridge
Baptist retirement home. Volunteer opportunities are available to assist their residents in various ways.

CHANGE
Communities Helping All Neighbors Gain Empowerment. It is a network of more than forty W-S churches who, together with other faith communities and neighborhood associations, work together to evaluate, advocate for, and serve the needs of our city.

Crisis Control
Largest emergency assistance provider in Forsyth County. Assistance is offered in five areas of need: food, rent, clothing, utilities, no-charge pharmacy (largest in Forsyth County).

Denominational Relations
To keep the church aware of the direction and opportunities of the denominational organizations that we support. Making members aware of our relationship with these groups, and how we should help them, financially and "hands-on".

Disaster Relief
To keep the church informed with what is happening in disaster recovery ministries. Building relationships with groups, such as the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association Disaster Response Team, and also the Baptist Men's group at the State Baptist Convention.

Diversity Team
Started by the Deacons to encourage a more diverse constituency for our church, reflective of Christ's teachings and of our present and past claim to be ministers to people of different cultural and economic groups. The team also functions as part of the Diversity Partnership Committee that links First Baptist on Fifth with United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in programs, worship, and ministries.

Forsyth Prison Ministry
Opportunities: Tutoring with those working toward a GED, Creative Arts Instruction, Creative Writing Instruction, Bible Study, Budget Management, Employment Referrals, Anger Management, Worship Services.

Habitat for Humanity
A worldwide Christian ministry with the goal of eliminating poverty housing. 150,000 homes built thus far. The local affiliate has built almost 200. Many opportunities for "hands-on" involvement.

Mission Emanuel
An ongoing mission program in the Dominican Republic. "Hands-On" and sponsorship opportunities are available.

Missionary Family Counseling
This is a counseling ministry established for the benefit of returning missionaries and their dependents when they return to the US.

Missions Connections
An annual event that helps our church get involved in "Hands-On" ministries in the local community.

Prodigals Community
This is a substance abuse recovery ministry. Their programs provide both the tough accountability and the opportunities needed to achieve drug-free living.

Rescue Mission
Ministry offers food to the hungry, rest to the weary, clothes to the needy, and Christ to the sinner.

Samaritan Ministries
Providing hope and healing by sharing food, shelter and companionship with the hungry and homeless through Christian love and service, for the benefit of all.

Samaritan's Purse
Collect children's items for Operation Shoebox.

Senior Adult Services
To coordinate missions activities between FBC and the local senior population, through various agencies.

Shepherd's Center
Mission Statement: "The Shepherd's Center of Greater Winston-Salem is an interfaith ministry that promotes and provides volunteer opportunities, life-long learning and support programs for older adults." The Shepherd's Center' many programs include respite for caregivers of older adults, visitation services, minor home repair and transportation.

SOS
A "handyman" ministry, but with an emphasis on building ramps for the handicapped.

Sunday School Missions
To coordinate the Sunday School classes with mission opportunities. To keep the Sunday School aware of what different classes are doing, and inform the classes of what they can become involved in.

Sunnyside Ministries
Provides services similar to those of Crisis Control for two postal zones.

Trinity Center
An ecumenical center for counseling, spiritual formation, and education. It offers counseling for adults, children, adolescents and families. There are spiritual formation groups, work programs and mediation for churches, groups and individuals.

WMU
The Women's Missionary Union is an ongoing ministry of FBC. They are to make FBC aware of missions activities they are involved in.

Young Life
A non-denominational ministry to high school students, developing relationships with kids where they are. Activities include weekly outreach meetings, Bible studies, weekend retreats, and summer trips to YL camps throughout the country. Active in 10 high schools in Forsyth County.
